The members of the clubhouse are building a greenhouse for a competition ran by Eco-Unesco. The name of our team is “Kids and The Beanstalk.” Over the last few weeks the young people have been busy creating a logo for their team name and project. They have been working hard on deciding which plants to incorporate in their greenhouse, the layout of the greenhouse, the prices of the plants and where to purchase them. The members are working together with the help of Ivana, and our mentors, to collect 1,400 2 liter bottles to create the walls of the greenhouse. This week the members have found a plot of land to grow their project!

Look below to see the “Kids and the Beanstalk” team, Ivanna, and our Mentors! If you want to help us to complete our project please donate any 2 liter bottles to the computer clubhouse!

Today at the Computer Clubhouse we began our Stilt Walking and Costume Making for the months of October through December. Right now the kids are working on their costumes for our Halloween celebration, “Get Your Spook On!” They will be making their own costumes for the celebration, and learning how to stilt walk. They have already made progress in one day, we cannot wait to see what will come in time for Halloween!

Thomas is teaching the children how to stilt walk for their first time in preparation for the show.

Thomas and Derek propose to the young people an amazing activity at the clubhouse. The young people learn how to walk on stilts with mentors. They practice safety by learning to fall and climb stairs outside the clubhouse before going out on the streets. They control their fear of being so tall while having a good time. The young people experience how it feels to be tall. Most of the young people on their stilts are taller than the mentors. The young people are reaching new heights with this fun activity !

This past Tuesday, our younger Clubhouse members traveled to Sugarloaf Mountain for a hill walk. With clear blue skies and a nice breeze, the clubhouse members scaled the rocks on the mountain and while taking in the breathtaking views during our journey to the summit. Once we reached the top we enjoyed a picnic lunch and also discovered wild blueberry bushes growing nearby. The clubhouse members collected enough blueberries to use to make blueberry muffins back at the clubhouse the following day. What a fantastic day!

This past Tuesday, some of our older Clubhouse members joined us for an awe-inspiring hike in Glendalough through the Wicklow Mountains. Following the white trail, our members climbed endless steps and inclines to reach the trail’s peak, approximately 380m high. Exhausted, we took a short lunch break beside a small rock waterfall, allowing our members to rest and enjoy the view before the rocky hike back down into the valley. By the time we returned to the car park, we had traveled 9km in just over 3 hours! Now that’s a hillwalk!
